Colvos Construction Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship Policy
Effective Date: July 1, 2025 Version: 9.0
Preamble
Colvos Construction is committed to conducting business in a manner that protects the environment, conserves natural resources, and promotes long-term sustainability within the communities we serve, including Tacoma and the Puget Sound region. Sustainability is integral to our Core Value of Stewardship and guides all operations, from preconstruction planning to project completion.
Our Commitments
Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Through efficient project sequencing, idle-reduction policies, local subcontractor/supplier prioritization (within Pierce County and WA), digital tools (e.g., Procore), and transitioning to an all-hybrid truck fleet (50% by end-2026, 100% by 2027).
Minimize Waste: Via project-specific diversion plans, recycling (metal, cardboard, wood, concrete), salvage strategies, prefabrication, and accurate material takeoffs to prevent overordering.
Protect Water Quality: Implement strict erosion/sediment controls, SWPPP compliance with daily inspections, and protection of catch basins/waterways.
Reduce Toxic Exposure: Specify low-VOC and environmentally preferable materials; maintain hazardous material handling, spill prevention, and certified disposal protocols.
Support Sustainable Procurement and Local Sourcing: Prioritize recycled-content materials, FSC-certified options, and regional vendors to minimize transport impacts.
Continuously Improve Performance: Through field oversight, management accountability, regular audits, and integration into preconstruction (e.g., LEED-aligned coordination).
Implementation and Measurement
Targets: GHG reduction (30% by 2030 from 2020 baseline); Energy/water savings (20%/15% per project); Waste diversion (70%+); Toxics/pollution cuts (25%+).
Monitoring: Quarterly reviews via SWPPP logs, waste documentation, audits, and progress reports shared internally/with clients.
Examples of Leadership: As primary contractor on the Owen Beach Pavilion and Park (APWA WA 2024 Project of the Year), we demonstrated habitat restoration, sea level rise resilience, and stormwater best practices.
